SCANDO & EURO STEEL : Vol 4 - 84 - 86

Hello again, hope you all managed to squeeze as much fun as possible out of your Christmases, and now that the big day is over i suspect you'll be looking for something to chase away the winter blues. Well folks, i'm glad to oblige with seven shiny black circles of Swedish steel from days of yore, and one from Finland too!
This time around, we span the years 1984 - 1986 to conclude our collection of Scandinavian and European 7"s, EPs and demos.
Tonight's "big" names are OZ, AXEWITCH and HEAVY LOAD, but make sure you take the time to get acquainted with MANINNYA BLADE, WARNING, HELS, MANIAC, FAITH and GOTHAM CITY too, just because you may be unfamiliar with them is no reason not to take the opportunity to check them all out.
I tell you this, i'm prepared to bet that you'll be glad you did!
Although this is the end of this particular musical excursion for the moment, fear not, because next time out we'll be delving into more vintage European and Scandinavian Heavy Metal, but we'll be focusing on the full length albums and Mini LPs from that scene.

Howdy folks, yep, it's that time again!
For your aural delectation and titillation this evening, we are proud to present part 3 of our ongoing Scandinavian/European Metal collection.
Here are some great 45s, Demos and EPs from Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Holland and Italy all released between the years of 1983 and 1984.
The "name" bands this time would be SYRON VANES, PAUL CHAIN and WITCHCROSS, but don't make the mistake of just going for what you know. Dig in and get yourself acquainted with the more obscure items too, have a taste of HIROSHIMA, a sampling of SWORD, a snifter of STITCH, a tot of HAMMERHEAD, a measure of LEZLIE PAICE, a plate full of RENEGADE, or snack on Airborne. I'm sure you'll find them all nice'n'tasty. Filling too.

SCANDO & EURO STEEL : Vol 2 - 82 - 83

Here we go again boys & girls, more Metallic treasures plucked from the depths of obscurity to shine like diamonds in the bright light of a new day. Or something like that.
Eight more Scandinavian or European Heavy Metal 45's, EP's or demos released between the years of 1982 and 1983.
Again, as in the first part of the post, most of tonight's selection comes from Sweden, with a nice one from The Netherlands to represent the rest of Europe. If you've heard of any of these bands it'll likely be HEAVY LOAD or AXE WITCH, both of whom are awesome, but take the time please to get acquainted with the likes of GOTHAM CITY, GRAVE et al too, you'll be glad you did! SCANDO & EURO STEEL : Vol 1 - 79 - 82

Okay, we're back again with a new set of uploads taking in a slightly different musical area. This time we're heading North, South and East in search of unsung Metal treasures from Scandinavia & Europe.
We'll stick to the 7"s and EPs for now, taking in the years 1979 to 1982 this time 'round. We've got music from Sweden & Norway in this post, but in the next installments we'll be taking in sounds from Holland, Finland and Italy alongside our Scandinavian brethren. Really, the chances are that you won't know any of the bands featured tonight unless you're a rabid collector or a Swede, but don't let this music's obscurity put you off checking it out. At the same time as the UK's Metallic renaissance was taking place, Sweden was undergoing a grass roots resurgence in the form, albeit on a smaller scale. There's some great music buried in these dusty grooves, all you have to do is dig it out. NWOBHM LPs Pt 3 (1983-1989)

Well, we've come to the end of this particular installment of NWOBHM LPs for the meantime, but worry not, there will be more to come in the future.
Part 3 covers the years from 1983 to 1989, and takes in a mix of better known bands such as ROGUE MALE and WRATHCHILD and contemporaneous obscurios such as OMEGA (who were formerly known as APOCALYPSE), the prog rock influenced ABEL GANZ, the more Hard Rock flavoured ROX and PHASSLAYNE and the utterly bizarre sound of DEEP SWITCH. NWOBHM LPs Pt 2 (1981-1983)

Here we are again with part two of the great NWOBHM LPs post, this time spanning the years 1981 - 1983. The better known bands featured here would probably be Liverpool's SPIDER, BRONZ (who featured NIGHTWING & future GTR vocalist MAX BACON) and ALKATRAZZ, but please note this is the AOR influenced UK group, not the Graham Bonnet/Yngwie/Vai band.
Lesser known names include the likes of CHINATOWN and the excellent Scottish band CHASAR, who i was lucky enough to see live once when i was just a lad. For real obscurists, check out the three compilation albums, all originally released by Ebony Records, lots of rare bands make their only vinyl appearances on these here compilations, and a few who went on to bigger & better things too. NWOBHM LPs Pt 1 (1979-1981)

A lot of people get hung up on the NWOBHM "sound", the galloping rhythm section, the riffing/duelling/harmonizing guitars, the budget rock god with the mike wailing like a Poundland Percy Plant. I recognise the affection for that style, but i feel an awful lot of worthwhile music from that era gets overlooked by people in an effort to turn up the lost bands who could have been the "new Maiden", those who fit the narrow NWOBHM definition. One of the NWOBHM movement's strengths to me was the sheer variety of music that was produced on this tiny island at that time which still fitted under the "NWOBHM" umbrella. Take part 1 of this 3 part mega post for instance, you got bands here which included prog-rock influences, Boogie, AOR, you had some who were coming from a Hard Rock direction, some who kept their Metal undiluted & raw, hell, there's even a Christian band included here! It was a broad church, (terrible pun!), and that's reflected by the music here, i hope you find something here that you'll cherish for life. Happy listening!
